"We're all grasping for a home," by Rhoda Kwan
A guest essay by journalist Rhoda Kwan on dealing with the loss of Hong Kong.
Dear all,
Hello from a very wintry day in Taipei, one of the coldest in many years! We’re bundled up here in multiple layers of blankets and trying to stay warm.
We’re honored to share this guest essay from Rhoda Kwan, a journalist from Hong Kong and Australia. We first met Rhoda over a year ago in Taiwan. She shared with us the longing and guilt that many exiled Hong Kongers experience here, and we’ve been following her writing ever since. Her work has covered efforts to preserve the Taiwanese language in Taiwan, the removal of the Pillar of Shame in Hong Kong, and the difficulties that clinical psychologists and school counselors face following the Beijing-imposed National Security Law. She’s humble, imaginative, and kind, and we’re excited to share her personal essay with you.
